Ready to let go? Come and AIR OUT YOUR DIRTY LAUNDRY in exchange for a laundry gift certificate! Dear Marfans and beyond:
Artist Pia Camil is making a community portrait as part of the exhibition, unFlagging at Ballroom Marfa. Please bring 2 or 3 CLEAN items of personal clothing: bed linen, blanket, towel , stuffed animal, or anything that might easily go on a clothesline. In exchange you will receive a $5 dollar laundry gift certificate for Tumbleweed Laundry (120 N Austin St).
The drop-off dates are: Oct 22- 31, 1 - 5 pm. Text our staff to 915.471.8311 to let us know you are here. We will practice social distancing to make this drop-off safe for everyone.
When you drop off your donation, you will be asked to make a simple recording that will then be edited and played alongside the clothesline in Ballroom’s Courtyard. The questions are:
What is your name? Where are you from? What are you donating? And why? In one word or phrase describe how you feel about the times.
For example: My name is Pia, I'm from Mexico City. I donated a bed linen that my first born son Guadalupe used in his crib. I don’t know what day or time of the day it is anymore.
Your contribution will not only help support a local business but will become part of an artwork made in collaboration with the artist. For Camil, clotheslines are a version of our own personal, domestic flags. Clothes can be representative of who you are. Flags are performative–they declare, demarcate, signal.
