I will come pick them up - be they rubble, broken or sitting in the rain for years. Did you get some Adobes from the Ballroom project and never do anything with them? That's okay, I with break them up and reconstitute them into 12" x 16" x 4" ladrillos.
Interested in this process? I am doing adobe making and adobe laying workshops one day per week (typically Tuesday or Wednesday). Once you participate in one workshop, I am paying $15/hour for labor. Due to corona, I am keeping enrollment to a minimum.
I would like to say that I/we can build a 1000 sq.ft. adobe home for $20,000? This cost includes making bricks, laying bricks, laying mortar, spreading plaster, purchasing and installing windows and doors and wood framing for windows, doors and roof, and for purchase and install of a metal roof. It does not include flooring, electrical or plumbing or a 20% general contractor fee.
If adobe really is desirable in Marfa, then we can get the peoples to build with Adobe. As more people make Adobe in Marfa, then we get more specialized. As we specialize more, we become more efficient and our rates go up to $20/hour and the cost of the house stays nearly the same. As we build more adobe houses from the ground up (pun intended), we get more accurate cost accounting numbers for what an adobe house in Marfa actually costs. Why spend $200K on an old adobe house when you can build the same sized house for $65K?
