The Blackwell School Alliance is gearing up for our second annual Blackwell Block Party on Saturday, April 27.
Each Block Party features a thematic Community Art Spark. The 2019 Community Art Spark is a historic walking tour created through a collaboration with Borderland Collective of San Marcos. We are bringing together participants with ties to the Blackwell School to share photographs, stories, and creative audio—curating favorites from our archives and adding more. Twenty photographs from this archive will be selected to be placed on a wall in Marfa as a walking tour of public art displays around the community, commencing in April during the Community Block Party.
Each image will be linked to audio available on one’s phone. The images will be on display for one year. In addition, a newspaper will be created that contains images and text from the Blackwell School archive, as well as a map guiding locals and visitors alike on a walking tour of the public art. The newspaper will be distributed across the community in stores, hotels, community centers, schools, and government offices. During the block party, we will set up an interactive activity allowing the community to contribute to the archive.
We need your help to complete funding for the walking tour and block party. If you came last year, you saw how much this means to our community. DONATE NOW on Go Fund Me.
And thanks very much for your continued support of the Blackwell School Alliance.
