Wrong Marfa is providing everything and more you could want to celebrate Marfa’s favorite succulent: art, mezcal and cumbia-funk music.
Join us Saturday, June 9, 7-9 p.m. for an art opening for San Antonio based artist Cruz Ortiz. DJing the event will be San Antonio based band-leader, multi-instrumentalist & culture creator, Roberto 'El Robotico’ Livar. Gem&Bolt Mezcal will be providing plenty of mezcal to get you on the dance floor.
Cruz Ortiz uses painting, print, sculpture, drawing, and public activation to address issues related to his experiences growing up in the bicultural landscape of South Texas.
Thoroughly grounded in the history of art, contemporary art practices, and social-political cultural movements Ortiz’s unique language fuses classical icons with symbols of contemporary pop culture such as taco trucks and tire shop signage. He has engaged the public with interactive works such as wheat paste murals, communal art events, guerrilla AM radio broadcasts, and ephemeral street sculptures. His recent works include field research into the historical frameworks of easel oil painting and its relationship to documenting Texas landscapes while weaving in the regional language juxtapositions of TEX-MEX.
DJ Roberto 'El Robotico' Livar, is a unique Texas talent who mixes a wide cross section of musical genres with leftist progressive politics, creating a borderless Spanglish dance party, wherever he travels.
