The City of Marfa seeks an Operator for the Public Works Department. The position ensures the water and wastewater facilities are functioning reliably, safely and properly and meeting all required standards. Duties include operating and maintaining the water supply and distribution and wastewater collection and treatment system. This position may be assigned to operate heavy equipment involved in the maintenance, installation, and repair of streets, drainage facilities, water and sewer main lines and taps. Contact with the public is involved in this position. A high school diploma or GED is required with trade school desired. Three years of progressively responsible experience in the operation, construction and maintenance of water and wastewater systems, experience as heavy equipment operator and knowledge of construction is required or any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Familiarity with State and Federal rules governing water distribution and wastewater treatments systems is required. A valid drivers’ license, commercial driver’s license (CDL), Wastewater Class D Treatment Certificate and Groundwater Class D Certificate issued by the State of Texas are required. This position is also responsible for reading utility meters and recording water consumption. Employee receives work instructions and refers questions to a supervisor for decisions.
