Artist Mainda Beeman will teach an six week course to learn the basic skills needed to paint with watercolors. The classes will start on Saturday, January 20 from 1-3:30 p.m. and continue through February 24, meeting every Saturday at the MSA Gallery. This class will be aimed at adults but teacher would consider teens who have a demonstrated interest in the arts.
Each week will address the basic skills of watercolor technique including an introduction to materials.
These skills will address the use of the wash, layering, lifting methods and dry brush techniques. Students will become familiar with the watercolor pigments and mixing of colors to better understand the range of color possible with this medium. All classes will begin with a demonstration of the technique explored on that day. The lessons will be taught with exercises then advance to using still-life and work from photos.
Beginning students do not need to have any background in watercolor or art. The teacher will give a supply list of materials (a basic starter kit around $50) for the student to buy prior to the class. Tuition for this class will be $150 for 6 classes. For more information or to register, email Malinda at firstname.lastname@example.org.
A percentage of the proceeds will go to the Marfa Studio of Arts, Studio in the School art program at Marfa Elementary. Gift certificate available.
