City of Marfa to Hold Seminar Regarding Hotel Occupancy Taxes on July 10, 2017.
The City of Marfa will hold an educational workshop regarding municipal hotel occupancy taxes on Monday, July 10, 2017 at 6:00 pm at The City of Marfa Visitor Center (USO Building), 302 South Highland Ave. The seminar will be facilitated by Justin Bragiel, General Counsel for Texas Hotel & Lodging Association. The seminar is open to the public.
Discussion topics will be the collection of the hotel occupancy tax by hotels and short-term rental properties, legal usage of the hotel tax revenues, and best practices for maximizing return-on-investment in the expenditure of those tax revenues. Usage of municipal hotel occupancy tax revenues are restricted by state law, and members of Texas communities frequently have questions on what is, and what is not, an allowable expenditure of that revenue.
Members of City Council, operators of hotels and short-term rental properties, and those interested in receiving municipal hotel occupancy tax revenue funding are encouraged to attend this seminar.
