How Living in the Desert affects our Art”
The Marfa Studio of Arts is having an open call for works of art by artists, age 18 and over, who live in the Big Bend Area/Trans-Pecos Region. Any artist may submit work for this exhibition if they live in a 100 mile radius of Marfa, Texas. The exhibition will open on Friday, June 2 during the weekend of the Agave Festival in Marfa and close at the end of June.
Art for this exhibition needs to demonstrate the vision of area artists and the effect of living in the desert on their work. The work can be abstract to realistic, the intent of the work only needs to have some influence of the desert environment that can be expressed in a short written statement. All mediums are eligible including 3-D works, conceptual works and video. As a non-profit art institution we do reserve the right to deny any work that could be considered unnecessarily offensive to the public.
All work will need to be hand-delivered on Wednesday, May 31 from 12 – 6 p.m. to the Marfa Studio of Arts Gallery at 106 East San Antonio, Marfa, Texas. Work needs to be ready for hanging or installation (specific details on our website at firstname.lastname@example.org). A small registration fee of $10 per artist is requested to help defray exhibition and reception expenses. The MSA is requesting that the artist give a 30% donation of any sale to the SITES (Studio in the Elementary School Program) however larger donations will be gratefully accepted. Only one artwork per artist is permitted unless a work is presented as a series and will be accepted if space is available.
